A fun little drama is unfolding through e-mail just now. You see I maintain the unofficial Windstone dealer's black list. This is a list of people who've done things like selling stuff from a smoking home as "mint, never displayed" and shipping things badly packed without insurance when the buyer bought insurance, that kind of thing. It's not meant as a "do not ever buy from" list so much as a "buy with caution" list.

There's a gal on it whose ebay name is penny0745 (and I make that public quite deliberately, I suggest you never buy from her, despite her decent feedback rating, because if nothing goes wrong you're fine, but if something does, you'll have a total psycho on your hands.) Anyhow, this penny person sold a Windstone dinosaur on ebay. She listed it incorrectly, that is without the Windstone name in the auction title. This is what we call a "hidden" auction, and they usually go cheap because nobody sees them. Finding a hidden auction is something of a collector's coup, and takes massive effort. (Just try finding one item, that may or may not be there at all, when the only search term you have to use is "dragon." Go ahead, try it!) Anyhow, after getting a bid on her dino from one of the forum collectors, she apparently realized why she wasn't getting much action, and took the auction down, and relisted it with "Windstone" in the title. This slightly ticked off the person who'd found her hidden auction, but there's nothing actually wrong with it, so okay.

But of course that's not the end of the story. Oh no. Somebody won the auction, and paid her for it. And she contacted them saying that she couldn't find the dinosaur. She suspects her son (of a toddling sort of age) stole it, and she can't figure out what he did with it. So instead of a refund, she offers a totally different figure in its place! Well the buyer's having none of that, and insists on a refund. Then penny finds the dino, in her son's toybox, and offers it again. Knowing that it's been played with by a toddler, and suspecting that it is no longer in particularly good condition, the buyer turns down the offer and insists on a refund. Penny does give a refund, and gets given neutral feedback for this.

Which I consider pretty fair. I had more or less the same thing happen to me recently (buyer sold item not actually in buyer's posession) and I gave a neutral feedback. The whole thing was such a bad experience for the buyer though that she contacted me and said that I probably should put this name on the black list. I agreed and did so. The black list is not just a list, as it includes the actual nature of the problem, so you can know if somebody is an outright cheat or just a bad packer, or in this case just crazy.

And I thought that was the end of that, but yesterday this penny person found the list. How she found it I'm not sure. It's not linked to directly from any official Windstone anything anymore, for legal reasons the official site has nothing to do with it. You have to PM me on the forums to get the address, and this penny person certainly never did. But however she found it, she found it. And she totally flipped out. Her first letter said I was "printing garbage" and told me to kiss her ass. Very nice of her.

Now if she'd contacted me and said "hey, this person got their refund, I wasn't being dishonest, could you please take my name off the list?" I would have done it! Just like that. But "@#$%@$## I never did anything wrong here's my life story woe is me you garbage person, KMA!!!!!!!1111oneelleventy!" No freaking way. I wrote back, told her to please calm down and quit being so rude. She replied with more of the same, and I said yet again that I wasn't going to respond to insults, please quit being rude.

Well she fired back a letter today that threatens me! She says if I lived in Michigan, she'd come over here and beat me up, or words to that effect. And also that she knows somebody who makes web pages, and *gasp!!!!* she's going to have them make a web page about me, how do I like that?! Then she says that she's 56, and I'm being immature. And that if I want to meet her halfway, she'll hop a plane and we can fight. I rather suspect that I'm not the immature one here.

And she's not being terribly smart. This is supposed to make me admit she's an honest Windstone seller and take her name off the list? Ha! Her entry now says that she harasses people by e-mail and threatens them with violence. *grin*

Hey Sparky print this! Yes that is me,you have on your, bad sellers list! Check out my reputation on ebay before printing your garbage. I was honest enough to refund the purchase price right away, after I sent the buyer a email asking her not to pay--because I couldn't find him! How honest was this? She paid anyway was rude when I immediately refunded her money back! Got all mad accused me of being dishonest and going to turn me in for selling a item I didn't have! Said I was breaking the law--why? Because my grandson hid him it the dog toy box? I simply couldn't find him. When I did--she turned me down--when I offered to send him! Yes I may be weird but --honest--and if you can't stomach that tough! I have had no other complaints from buyers--and she sure wasn't a buyer--as a matter of fact she is a seller ! I apologized to her and I guess she didn't accept--she gave me a neutral! Every other buyer--real buyer was satisfied ! So B.M. penny0745 Here's a big K.M.A. to you all ! Take that with you!

----------------------
Chill.

Calm down.

Please do not sling accusations at me. I maintain the list and I put on it what I know. I would appreciate a POLITE explanation of things rather than accusations and name calling. Considering that you sold an item, and then turned around and said it was not actually in your possession, I would consider neutral feedback perfectly fair. I will update my page with the extra information you have given me.

The list is not intended as a list of people to never buy from. It is intended to be informative about the business behavior of sellers and buyers. It has nothing whatsoever to do with ebay feedback, it is an anecdotal list taken from direct personal experiences of people I know. I have not "printed garbage" and I don't care one whit if the other person in this transaction is solely a collector or is a seller also. I have told the story as it was told to me. I will update it now that I have heard your side.

But attacking and accusing me, and the other person involved in this transaction is not exactly getting you on my good side.

Stephanie, You know you just print whatever someone says. Letting the person slinging the mud have there say is fine and just imagine my surprise when I opened this web site of sellers to beware of and say my ebay name--I am a buyer, sold because I fell ill and needed the money at the time. But anything I truly sold I followed up on. Made sure everything was good and arrived good. I was a awesome seller--I treated people the way I would like to be treated. The simple fact was when I couldn't find this dinosaur I tried pulling him and being a first time seller I tried to re list him in the right spot first--couldn't get him there--when he came up missing I tried to pull him and ebay wouldn't pull him--too close to ending! Didn't want someone to buy him when I couldn't find him! Believe me I don't even like him! I even tried to find her another on another web site --but she said he was too much--more than she had won him for--well believe me mine wasn't new nor was he in the best shape and I stated that. I really didn't know where he was! An I accused everybody in my family of taking him--felt stupid because my grandson--I thought might have taken him--put him in a spot I never thought of looking--the dog toy box! I had done everything right that I could think of and still stand by my actions--crap happens and always will. I was honest and got a slap for it. You know I had purchased things from this seller for myself and my daughter gave her good feedback and asked her if she was still mad. She said no--well, It looks to me like she wasn't being honest about that. As I said one side of the story is never enough. If you are going to print about people at least have the objects(people) of other peoples wrath be able to have there say. You may not like me and I could care less--but being a black listed seller--for a accident--I was honest about insults me as a person and the expectations that I hold myself responsible for. I don't need answer to anyone as I must answer to myself for whatever I have done. An for this I hold a clear conscience. In other words she over reacted! One more thing I like Amuck's they don't need to double box--as they insure everything they send and it is all in original packaging. What a bunch of cry baby's people are pathetic! Also I work for a living please if I do ever put anything up again it is quite simple --don't bid on my stuff not because I am a bad seller--because I don't want anyone that believes this bunch of malarkey as being the truth just because one person said it was so. Oh my god the sky is really falling! But just for some people. Penny0745

--------------------------------
Politeness will get you more than attacks will. Please quit being so rude.

I don't care about your life story or why you sold a dinosaur. My site says exactly what happened. It does not say to not buy from you. It does not say you are an awful person. But now it says that you harass people by e-mail, because you have chosen to insult and attack me rather than to politely request your name be removed.

You will get more flies with honey than with vinegar. Please stop insulting me.

-------------------------------
Dear idiot now you have been unsulted! Just wanted to show you the difference. I do not not need to K.Y.A. Don't know who you think you are! You are no princess because you do not check out any facts! You simply print the first garbage that comes in. You are all that though I wil give you that(read between the lines) You couldn't face me and say the stuff you are saying.I feel for your kind of chicken sh---- additude.I will not K.Y.A. I would do the other meaning though--In a fast heart beat. Too bad you don't live in my state YEA Michigan people here don't take the stuff you are dishing out. You don't need to pull this I want you to keep your attacks up--you are irresponsible. My friend does web sites I think she will do one on you ! Bites doesn't it. An your site does say sellers not to buy from --what are you denying that for ? You are allowed to print someone else's opinion and my freind is allowed to print my opinion of your site. Get off those rose colored glasses--and your site does say seller to black-list! Glad I am not a real seller--I don't make my living doing this and you may not like my life story--you are the one that is rude and insulting--everytime you print your poo-poo! Hey no need to respond to me unless you want to meet me in a state half way. I am up for a drive or a flight. Buy the way I am 56 years old hardly a child,as you must be! Hey thank for the false accusations. I love people like you! Take that with you! I am sooooooo done!

---------------------------

I couldn't care less if your friend makes a web page on me. Once again I state that if you would be polite, I would at least consider taking your name off the list, but threatening violence against me will get you nowhere.

I tell you. I get all the crazies! If her threat was a little more explicit I'd report her to the police. I'm tempted to anyhow. I have her real name, phone number, and address now. (Isn't Google great?)

That exchange does not rate highly on the "sane, rational discourse that will get you off a blacklist" meter. It's not good to jump to the conclusion that because someone didn't immediately do what you wanted, they must be out to destroy your good name.

Oh gawl, you should have seen the emails I got from the crazy woman who bought my Corpse Bride dress the Halloween before last.

In my auction, I stated exactly when payment was due so I knew the dress would get there in time.
So she payed me ten days after that date, I bumped up her shipping, sent it as soon as humanly possible, and when it wasn't on her doorstep that Saturday morning, I got pages and pages of
"You are so irresponsible! This is unacceptable! Of course I will want a refund! My daughter is crying her eyes out! She was so distraught she couldn't go to school today! This is all your fault! I hope you're happy with yourself for breaking my daughter's heart!"
And on and on and on...
By some miracle, the package showed up on her doorstep just as they needed it, and of course, she wrote back all smiles and roses and casually mentioned something like "Oh sorry if I sounded a little harsh..."

That's the only thing wrong with ebay. All the sellers are people. lol

Oh man... That sounds like all kinds of fun!

I've only had one really crazy ebay encounter myself. This one doesn't quite count, I don't think. And the one guy getting all uptight when I called him on trying to buy the item off ebay was just a minor snit.

But the mess with my insane ex who bought my laptop was two months worth of massive huge drama, that ended with his trying to get back together with me again, and saying he loved me, even though I "lied" to him about the ebay auction and tried to cheat him. (Not that I did try to cheat him, he just never actually read the auction!)

Ebay is full of crazy people.

oh gosh! Funny. I had someone on ebay buy an expensive peice of electrial equip. that I was selling for someone else. he paid 700 bucks and lived in aussie. I warned him that shipping would be very high. 40 bucks for ground and 80 for air. He paid 40. 4 weeks later he wrote to me saying that because I did not ship it he was fired from him job, as it apparently required him to have this thing. I wrote back, hey you paid for ground. That takes 4 to 6 weeks IF you are lucky. He then gave me neg feedback and called the farking POLICE in my town. THey showed up at my home, lights going, and asked about it. Luckily I had the customs form copy handy and they then left. He wrote like 3 days later saying...oops his bad. He finally got it and saw the price on the label. Poop head

It's the story of my life. *grins*

BTW, a quick aside on neutral feedback. Most sellers regard neutrals pretty much the same way as they do negatives. Yes, I know this isn't rational. But eBay sellers, by and large, are NOT rational beings, particularly where feedback is concerned.

Date: 2007-05-04 05:16 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bladespark.livejournal.com
Bah to them! I only leave neutral when somebody's been an idiot. I mean... selling an item you don't actually have in your possession? Idiotic. Even if you do give a refund. You just shouldn't do that.

Oh, I agree. Just saying that neutrals are perceived that way. Personally, I'd have negged her. *grins wickedly*

O_O So much psychosis... It almost makes your head spin, no? I must say, I love knowing the law, because you're right: If her threats were any more specific (and maybe coherent), it's a case of harrassment, or, in Utah's new code, "Making a Terroristic Threat." XD Wouldn't that be awesome?

"I am, no terrorist you poo-poo-face! You make me got to jail and I am soooooo mad, I should fight you!"
