The "new" machine came today. Of course it's second hand, and... obviously very well used. But it's supposed to be able to sew what I need sewn, and does a zigzag as well as a straight stitch, so if it works I won't need to keep the old one. (Anybody want a Singer 401A? Sews light fabrics perfectly, doesn't like velcro or fake fur.) I'll give it a rest run at some point today, but right now I've got four or five things that must go out this week, hard deadlines, and I try to never miss those, so I'm working on hand sewing some small stuff, gluing in claws, and stuffing tails.

Also hoping to find a little time to paint today, but obviously commissions have to come first.

If you have the money/time/logistics, try taking it down to your Nice Mr Machine Repair Man and get him to give it a checkup before you use it for heavy use.

He may spot any points of wear and be able to replace them before they break and take something else with them...

Just a thought, and a very conditional one, but it's a thought.

Interesting idea. I may end up doing that.

Why did you abandon the Singer?

Because it won't sew fake fur very well, which makes up the vast majority of my sewing projects. And because it won't sew velcro very well, and velcro is the one thing I just can't do by hand. (It kills my fingers!)
