Today is Veteran's Day. I always was reminded of it back in my elementary and high school days. We'd have the big assembly, and there'd be some older-than-dirt veteran come to speak to us, stuff like that.

But of late I haven't even noticed the day. No reason to. I don't get classes off, and college teacers seldom mention it, unless you're in history courses, or possibly literature or some such.

Today, however, I was unable to put it out of my mind all day long. Treehouse is an interesting place to work, as we're so focused on an elementary school level, so of course we had to honor the day. We did patriotic things all day long, from the art garden craft, (nifty stremer wand things,) to the kinda cheesy movie "Hymn to America" that we played like five times. (Great American moments set to songs. Lots of space shuttle and war footage, lots of shots of New York.) And veterans and their families got in free, though only one guy turned up to take advantage of that. Few veterans have elementary school aged kids...

It was just kind of strange, to realize that for the last seven years I haven't even thought about the day when we're supposed to remember those who have died for our contry. I'm glad of today's reminder. I'll admit that many Americans, including many of those in power, have been idiots, but I'm still kinda proud of this country.
