I'm going to say this right now.

I hate porn.

I hate alcohol.

I hate addictive drugs.

HATE them. Absolutely despise them. Do not like them, do not ejoy them, do no do them, do not advocate having anything to do with them. I think everybody would find their lives better and brighter and full of more positive and good stuff if they removed all of the above completely from them

Is that clear?

I'll joke about porn. I'll be a designated driver. I'll argue for legalizing some drugs. I'll take part in things like this lj protest, because I believe in the importance of being able to speak freely. But it's a case of "I may not agree with what you say, but I’ll defend to my death your right to say it." I don't agree. I don't like it. I think that porn is in the same category as alcohol - the effects on everybody tend to be poisonous, and there are some who just can't leave it alone, and so it destroys their lives. And maybe your slashfic isn't as bad as somebody else's lolita, or you think your girlie photos aren't in the same category as somebody else's BDSM collection. Maybe there are gradations, but no matter what the gradation is, if it's going past cheesecake, and into actual sexual content, I'm going to call it porn and hate it.

Can I be any more clear here? I HATE PORN.

And if you love porn, that's fine. That's you. Enjoy. Have fun. I sincerely hope that you get all the good and none of the bad from it. I will not try and save you from it, or tell you that you can't or shouldn't. If you're an adult, it's your business, not mine. And even if you're not an adult, it's your parent's buisness, not mine. So please don't try and argue with me about how great porn is. That's not why I'm posting this.

I just want to make sure that everybody knows that I although I took part in the strikethrough protests, it is not because of some concern that people weren't getting the porn that they're entitiled to. It was because I want to have lj be a place where people can say whatever they want and not get censored for it.

Dang! There should be more people like you around making the world a better place. My hat's off to you. And jfoxfire made a very good point about smoking. It's just as bad. I share the same stance as you on all the topics. As I put it in one of my previous entries, "people are getting tired of hearing 'don't drink alcohol' and 'don't do drugs', but nobody would need to say that if it wasn't a problem." Personally, I don't see the appeal, and why people can fall victim so easily. They say they are "pressured", but you ALWAYS have the opportunity to say no. And did you hear? They came out with a new drug called "Strawberry Meth" that smells and looks like Kool-Aid powder, but is extremely deadly. What the HALLO-PALOOZA is the problem with people? I mean, ANOTHER toxic substance? Do they realize that they are killing people? Kids mainly! Have they no conscience? Is money really that terrible that you would sell your humanity to get at it?

I haven't posted anywhere why I hate them.

But the short version is - these are things that you can begin, intending to stop, and then discover that you cannot stop.

You can look at one smutty picture, and not mean anything more by it, and end up wasting all your time looking at porn, and look at porn instead of having real sex with your wife, even. You can take one drink, and end up an alcoholic. You can smoke one cigarette, and die of cancer. They're addictive, is the fundamental reason for my hatred. They take away your freedom to not do them.

And of course some people take a drink, and then walk away. Some people look at porn, and then close the window. But you cannot know which kind you are until it's too late.

In addition, they're things that our culture considers to be normal, that everybody drinks, everybody looks at porn, people think you're strange if you never do either. There's even pressure to "try it" at least once if you haven't, the idea that you're missing out on something if you haven't been drunk, seen a smut film, etc. Which is annoying. Have you not lived if you been mugged? You're missing an experience there! Everybody should try it once, right?!

Plus, besides being addictive there are other affects. Alcohol impairs your judgement. People do stupid idiotic things. They drive drunk, they kill people, they say things they shouldn't. They commit crimes. They beat their spouses. And it's not doing their livers any good either. Porn objectifies females. It supports stereotypes. It gives an unrealistic view of what sex is like to people who may not know that it's not supposed to be like that. It takes the ridiculous standards of female beauty in our culture to an extreme, putting forth as sexually desirable those who are skinny, blonde, and have a chest out to here. It tends towards the idea that a relationship is all about sex, and that getting sex is why you want to be with somebody. And it cheapens sex, taking it from being something very deep and special, the sharing of which is a great gift, to something drab and meaningless, which near-strangers engage in minutes after meeting.

Of course I know there are exceptions, there are people who get drunk and just get happy. There are porn stories that also talk about real love. There are all kinds of good or at least not too bad things that are possible.

But just because a bowl full of steaming crap has a few cups of cheerios mixed in, why would that make me want to go eating the crap? There's no way to read or watch or look at porn regularly and ensure you're not getting the demeaning, objectifying, and just plain wrong bits. There are no filters that say "show me porn but only if it's good." It's all mixed in together.

That answer the question?

You really know how to say things. Oh my gosh! It's amazing how well and perfect you state yourself! How you say it is so perfect and everything. I commend you for your views and I agree entirely. However, like you said, there are always the "sometimes" and "exception" rules, but to whom it concerns, they know inside themselves if what they are doing is wrong or not,vno matter how small their conscience is.

Fair enough, i only ask because I like getting critiques on my photos and I respect you and so would value any opinions or critiques you would care to give.
