So I went a purged the communities I really no longer have any interest in from my lj. Some of them were spamming me, others never posted.
I feel weird though, I haven't had this few communities in ages.
And I had the thought... I wonder if I'm missing out on anything awesome? So! Does anybody on my friends list know of an lj community they think is awesome that I can check out?
My criteria for awesomeness:
1. Talking happens. It doesn't have to happen often, but if the last post was in 2004, there's really no point in joining something.
2. Spam doesn't happen. I love craft communities, and I really do understand the urge to advertise your stuff, but if the community is mostly just people advertising, and there's no conversation, it's just not awesome enough for me.
3. It won't eat my friends list. Lots of talking is good, but if there's fifty posts a day, I really don't want to have to wade through it. This is why I'm not on customers_suck, or mock_the_stupid or metaquotes.
4. It is not full of idiots. The topic doesn't matter that much, but if it's crawing with people who think that their way is the only way, or people who make causing drama a way of life, or people who are so uptight that they don't even want you to make fun on the trolls, or stuff like that, it is not awesome. I like a good argument now and then, but if I'm going to end up arguing with somebody every single day? Probably not a good idea for me to join.
Any suggestions?

Date: 2007-06-03 03:39 pm (UTC)I'm not a member of all that many, but I'll recommend http://community.livejournal.com/scans_daily/ for comic-related geekery and http://community.livejournal.com/loltheorists/ for utterly silly, geeky and oddly intellectual lolcattish stuff. Also, though it isn't a community as such, http://riotclitshave.livejournal.com is a regularly updated journal of utterly gorgeous pics of various degrees of weird and cool.

Date: 2007-06-03 08:03 pm (UTC)I suspect your sense of humor is slightly askew from mine though. *chuckles* Those are all funny, but other than loltheorists, not quite my shade of funny. That one I may well join though, even if half the jokes go whoosh overhead.
