Adventure!
Jun. 5th, 2007 10:03 pmI was bitten by about a dozen geese, both what I assume are feral adults (they're white) and a number of Canada goose goslings today. I also held a ball python!
He was terrified of me and spent the whole time curled up in the characteristic ball. He uncurled just a bit, but balled up again when JJ went to pet his head. Apparently ball pythons do not approve of having their heads touched. I want a ball python so badly! Or any constrictor, really, but more and more I'm liking ball pythons. They're not terribly aggressive, they don't get too gigantic, (six feet max, three to four is more typical, particularly if I get a male, which I would prefer) they're low maintenance, don't require much in the way of special care (just temperature control, they do fine in what's pretty average humidity around here,) and they're so very pretty!
We went and fed the ducks and geese at a park near here. There were hordes of Canada goose goslings, some of them half fledged, some still fuzzy. They were all adorable. The goslings bite harder than the adults. I know this because I got my fingers bitten a lot while trying to feed them. JJ just tossed his bread, but I had a lot of fun getting them to take it from my hands. The adults don't bite hard at all, but for some reason the goslings bite like they want to eat my fingers too. They were so cute though! And they peep! Eee! Socute! Then we went to the pet store for food for the cats, and found that they'd started carrying snakes at the local Petsmart. The gal there knew a lot about them, and let me fish out one and hold it. He was totally awesome! Maybe a foot long, and absolutely gorgeous, and soft and sleek feeling too. Hee. Must have a snake! Maybe once JJ's a little further along in school and we have a clue what we'll be doing in a few years, I'll get one. It really wouldn't be responsible now. For one thing there's nobody to take care of it while we're away on vacation and such. JJ's mom tends the cats, but even though a snake needs lots less tending, apparently she's phobic about them, and about dead mice too, so there's no way she'd feed it.
But someday! Someday I will have a lovely ball python. Maybe even, if I'm rich enough, one of the unusual color morphs, though I like the "default" color just fine! But man... some of the variants are amazing. Like the axanthic and het axanthic ones here.

Date: 2007-06-06 10:54 am (UTC)I have become very familiar with said birds since October. If the white ones had grey beaks and feet they were probably snow geese. I like snow geese - they're less scarily big than Canadas and less aggressive than greylags.

Date: 2007-06-07 01:41 am (UTC)As for the little reptiles, I have nothing wrong with them, in fact I think they are adorable, but my mom hates them, and I still prefer furry animals, not scalies. Not that there's ANYTHING wrong with snakes. Still, a ball python WOULD be fun to have, I just don't know how friendly they are.

you can find reviews of sellers and get good info about balls in the BP forum. they are AWESOME! my female is rather tolerant almost "friendly" in the sens that she isn't afraid of people and is always hungry, so she crawls all over you to make sure you don't have any food. :D
I think there may a BP breeder near you in OR somewhere that i emailed a few times.
