Buttwings!

*ahem*

If you are going to mod a pony, and this mod involves wings, there are many complications introduced. For example, if your pony faces sideways rather than forwards (and many do,) you may find that placing the wings in the most natural position, on or just behind the shoulders, means that the sweep of the wings blocks the face. Obviously you do not want to have the face obscured when taking a side shot, so you need to find a solution. One possible solution is to only use front-facing ponies for winged customs. Another option is to have an arched or upswept wing design that brings the main bulk of the wings up high. Or you may tilt the wings so that they only obscure in a narrow line, rather than presenting the broad side to the viewer.

Solving this problem by having your pony's wings come out of its rump, however, is not really an optimal solution.

*giggles* That is kind of amusing and unfortunate... as you say, the rest of it is beautiful but... yeah. It's hard to notice anything else but the awkward place the wings are fit on. And my brain's trying to work out what flying with such wings would be like, awkward at best... o_O

Wow, that is gorgeous! Funny though, I might not have immediately noticed the placement of the wings had it not been mentioned (till I saw it in person perhaps), because the way they are shaped or angled in one photo gave me the illusion that they were positioned more forward.

Such a shame! Even the Flutters were able to have similar wings positioned over the center... I think being too married to the shamrock wing shape (or that particular awkward pose--never did much like that one) might have been a real detriment in this case.

I wish you would give her an honest crit on the forum. She needs it....but talking about it here where she can't see won't help her much. But yeah she does need to work on her wings. The pony is amazing and perfect...except for those wings. I hate how they look so ummm cheap too.

I have yet to see ANY actual crit given on those forums. I wasn't sure if it would be welcome or not.

Yeah crits are welcome and I actually posted one. Not even about placement which I didn't notice...but about the type of wings. I wrote this...
"I adore the hair!
I love the pose!
I am impressed with the amazing symbol and eye paintjob! You really have improved your painting skills alot since you first started painting!!!
I am not overly fond of the wings though. They look....too plain. And too chunky for her. I would like to see a pair of piper's irridecent delicate little fairy wings. "

Basically I was tring to help...but at the same time I was not cruel. But she ignored me. Maybe more than one person pointing it out would help. After all...she keeps doing it over and over. Someone needs to help her see the problem.

I'd be tempted to call them fins.

Like a studebaker.
