Heh, I always figured it wasn't related to sex, but to the individual. I've known both guys and gals that were the silent type, guys and gals that were talkative, and guys and gals both that didn't know when to be quiet.
I'm not very talkative, at least amongst strangers, since I'm a listener by nature so I suppose I fit the stereotype. But I have male co-workers that are outgoing and extroverted to the point where I find them vaugely tiring to be around. I also have female co-workers that make me seem positively eloquent they're so silent.
