Livejournal is at it again.
Loooks like I was VERY right to just let my paid account expire last week.* (*sigh* Extra icons, how I miss thee...)
Makes we wonder... what will we do if lj finally goes belly up? I hope every one of you reading this knows that my website is bladespark.com, easy to remember, really, so that if it does ever die, you don't have to lose touch.
*Although the original gift of paid time was hugely appreciated, I do not want anybody to buy me anything lj related. I'm boycotting them. As much as I can boycott them and still keep in touch with you folks that I care about, and with my customers.

Date: 2007-08-03 06:19 pm (UTC)Other blog sites I know about (but have not checked out at all):
Greatest Journal
Xanga
Sites I have been on to try:
Multiply (this is new and they have alot of bugs to work out)
Blogger/Blogspot (great for my LL.com site but no sense of community. There are no things like friends lists on there nor any real prescence of community there at all)
Yeah...any others listed here in reply to me might be helpful.

Date: 2007-08-04 10:07 pm (UTC)There is nothing in their TOS that explains why they've banned people. It says they can of course, but there is no rule, no policy, no definition of what's not allowed that includes the things which have been banned for.
For example, can you find, in the TOS, where it says that putting "incest" as an LJ interest will get you banned? Is there any specific, clear, definable standard for what is and what isn't an unacceptable interest? Is there any specific clear and definable standard for what is and what is not "art" and what will be considered "child porn?" Is there an explanation for why depictions of fictional teenagers engaged in sexual activities has been banned as child porn?
If you can present me with these things, I will admit your point. But since these things are NOT actually spelled out anywhere, I maintain that livejournal is being stupid. They have said they will ban pornographic material that contains minors and has no artistic merit, but they refused to define any standard of any sort for what constitutes a minor, and for what constitutes artistic merit. Fred and George Weasley aren't minors. They're not even real people, and the actors that play them have been of age since the FIRST movie. And yet that's one thing somebody has been banned for, is showing them in a sexual way.
I don't personally want to see Fred and George getting each other off, I think that's kind of disgusting, but I find the arbitrary declaration that it's not allowed, even though it doesn't violate any of their actual written rules, to be even more disgusting.

And I am not willing to bet a single cent that lj might not eventually decide that furry = obscene.
