I'm half tempted to swear I'm never going to speak a word or post a picture about Anthony anywhere ever again. Will people PLEASE quit assuming I'm either stupid or cruel? Just because I'm new to snakes doesn't mean I'm a total idiot, and it certainly doesn't mean I'm abusive, to either snakes or rodents.

Edit: Okay, okay, I'll keep posting Anthony pictures. I'm just a little aggravated over the amount of negativity I've been getting in regards to him.

That's lame.
I used to do very... um... unorthodox things to my gerbil when I was little (i.e. swimming lessons) but he lived eight, healthy years.
People need to understand that there is more than ONE way to take care of animals. :(
The personalities and needs of animals are as diverse as those of humans. It's up to the owner to figure them out. It's not like he's in danger of dropping dead or anything! >:[ Sheesh!

Sorry about the rant, but the prospect of no more 'Tony piccies riled me up...

lol

Sweetie, it's part of being a snake owner. You are instantly vilified for owning something that OMG!!#@%@ eats cyoot fuzzy furry widdle animoos. How could you?

Don't feel bad. You are now a part of a pet owner's minority. Revel and laugh at people's ignorance.

You'd have enjoyed some of the conversations I've had with PeTA types who believed that I should either set Pip loose because she's miserable in her tank (right, which is why she still eats and is totally healthy), or feed her carrots because feeding her anything live is inhumane and EEEEEEEEVIL.

My honest opinion about you and your snake? Congratulations on such a cutie. No matter how much research you put into the care and maintenance of your pet, there is always more to learn. You will make mistakes, and you will learn from them. You will have successes. You will enjoy them.

Who the hell cares what anonymous interwebz people think, anyway? Even me? However, my opinion is far more important than what anti-reptile or all-knowing snake owners say.

The rotten bastiges.

Don't worry about what the assholes say. Keep showing off your scaley pal, and telling people what a joy s/he is.

Heh. Thanks.

This latest irritation has just gotten to me, and I've been rather twitchy lately.

What utter foolishness. Ignore the attackers, accept tips offered nicely, and enjoy your snake.

Besides, don't you know that it's not NATURAL for snakes to eat live micies? Nooo, in the wild they eat... umm... shallots. yes, shallots. And berries. And stuff.

I agree with you on that.

Like I've mentioned before, I've raised mice and rats, and while I dislike the idea of feeding them to snakes, one has to draw the line somewhere. Snakes must eat, and rats and mice must have their numbers culled back. If the fuzzy critter wasn't raised as a pet, then it's a feeder. I've spoken with other breeders that would have tantrums at me for saying that, but it's a basic fact of life. Be they dead and frozen or live and scurrying, snakes must eat and so some rodents must die.

indeed...

the pets are the lucky ones, just like the wild mice/rats that survive to die of old age in the wild. It's just that the feeders humans keep usually (but not always) have it easier up until they get fed to a snake, whereas wild ones have to find their own food and water AND get eaten by snakes/owls/cats and everyone else looking for some fuzzy popcorn...
