I am posting a lot. I would say I'm sorry, but I'm actually not. I keep finding intersting stuff, and the funny thing is that I'm actually getting a little work done today too! Though I've lost a goat thumb tip. If anybody sees a small, hollow, blue plastic triangular pyramid with a rounded tip, painted glossy black on the outside, would you please send it my way? I suspect the cat may have made off with it, but I'm not sure.

Anyhow, in counter to my post of a while back about terror and being afraid of the government, here's a few reasons why whatever else they may do, the Bush administration is probably not going to declare martial law and cancel the elections.

Remember: in the event of the government attempting to cancel the elections, you can always vote from the rooftops.

There is just one big problem with that tactic, and indeed the whole concept of Americans claiming to want their right to arm bears to prevent a corrupt government from taking over: you would need to be big, organised and have the entire media on your side.

Small groups or individuals attempting anything without widespread popular and media support would be immediately arrested, villified by the press as terroists and - if they aren't killed in a "brave action to take down a dangerous, active group of AQ members" - shipped off to godknowswhere to spend the next unknown number of years being tortured to give out the names of their accomplices and being held without trial or representation.

Those guns are worth nothing against a government that can manipulate the population to see things their way, they are at best the final act of something that would need to take control of the minds of the population as a whole.

"First: Deep breath, everyone. Seriously, find your happy place inside before we go any further. Yes, pat that imaginary pony and feed it a sugar lump. Imaginary pony loves you. Feel better? Excellent."

I /like/ this guy! But I am scared of martial law. Sorta. I'd be part of the martialling, so it might be fun for a bit. And then when the people uprised... hmm. Yeah, I think it would suck for a while, and then society would collapse and I'd finally have that anarchy I've wanted for so long. Society needs something like that to finally kick them in the face and make them stop and think and consider WTF is going on around them.

Good case for why it won't work, even if it happens. We're pretty sure they won't try something like martial law. Besides, to keep the power structure and just corrupt it completely would be easier.
