I need a little advice.
Shocking, isn't it?
I just wanted to ask a snake question. Given that there are several nice, sane, and knowledgeable snake owners reading this, I figure here's as good a place to ask as any.
So... Anthony. Has only pooped once since I got him. He's eaten twice now, and is nearly due for the third feeding, but given that his last bit of "business" was before the first time I fed him, and he's now got the left overs of two mice in there, (I can't find any evidence, though I did search the tank.) I'm not sure it's a good idea to feed him another one. But, you know, this is one thing I don't actually see much about on various care sheets and forums, just a mention of making sure a snake poops as often as it eats, but how does one "make sure" of that if it's not happening?
I'm currently giving him a soak in warm water, with the logic that since I've been told they poop in their water bowl a lot if they spend time in there, and Anthony never spends any time in there, then perhaps he's too dry in the nethers, or something, and a soak may help. He does not seem to approve of the water, for some strange reason.
Anyhow, additional information would be appreciated.

Date: 2007-08-22 10:06 pm (UTC)Feed him normally unless there is any wierd coloration on his belly, darkness can indicate retained food/blocked digestion. a soak is ok, it won't hurt unless he has scale rot (lots of pink or orange colors on his belly scales)but he probably doesn't need it. If he is otherwise looking and acting normally, he will be fine! usually about when you start getting wortried is wehn you look in and see the poop, they also can poop under their hides ( and lay on it... eww...) which is what minde do alot. I find rather old poops when I take out everything to clean weekly/biweekly that i didn't see or smell at all before i find them. : P

Date: 2007-08-23 02:44 am (UTC)Pip will usually go a couple of feedings before she defacates, but she will leave urates (the white part) fairly often.
I guess I just wouldn't sweat the poops.
