Okay folks.

YET AGAIN.

I do not "suport" porn. I don't like smut. I HATE PORN and I can't STAND slashfic.

Clear? I was in the strikethrough and boldend protests SOLELY AND ENTIRELY because I disapproved of livejournal's dishonest, condescending, and underhanded behavior. If they want to honestly and upfront ban all porn from lj, I will be perfectly happy. It's their community, they can ban porn if they like, and even if they wanted to freaking ban furries, I'd think they were kind of stupid, and I'd be annoyed at the inconvenience, and I'd probably let them know how annoying I found it, but I would fully support their right to do so as long as it was honest and upfront.

I thought I had made this very clear, but it seems not. Porn = ick in my book. Got it folks? You post it if you want, and you enjoy, but I don't want to see it, and if I spot any of it in your posts, I'm going to be skimming over those bits.

"I do not agree with the word you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." It continues to astonish and dismay me how much trouble the majority of people seem to have with this concept. Incidentally it's something I admire about you a lot, your ability to take a stand and defend people's freedoms, even when you don't necessarily agree with how they're using that freedom.

I don't know how anyone could even skim your LJ and miss that. It's not like it is all you say is bashing porn ( think you have more of a life than to focus on one subject all say), but jeez, you defiantely don't beat around the bush on the subject either...
and yay free speech right and supporting them! wish more people would do it...

Well apparently my thinking the Gor books don't belong in libraries means that I don't actually support free speech, and I'm some kind of hypocrite for "supporting" porn in the strikethrough but not wanting demeaning, nasty women-hating smut being published as main-stream sci-fi.

hmm... that's lame. While i think free information is awesome, i can understand why there are adult material labels/sections in libraries and bookstores. I hate hidden agendas that involve racism, sexism, or whatever... make it a story not a personal kkk newsletter... :P

I love me some porn and happily write slash - but my reasons for being annoyed at strikethrough were the same as yours.

If LJ came out and said "no porn! Your porn is bad!" I would grumble - and move my porny stuff elsewhere. But they didn't. They said "your slashyness is welcome here" SMACK! "Ooops, sorry, our bad. Slashyness come back. We won't ban you. Buy our accounts?" SMACK "Oops, we did it again. Sorry. Have a fluffy make nice post. And buy our V-gifts" which hacked me off.

*nods* Yeah. It was all kinds of scummy, and I'm still annoyed at them over it.

I really have nothing against people who enjoy porn enjoying it in their porny communities. I just don't want to look at it myself, and I'd rather that at least some effort be made to keep kids* out of such places. But really pretty much everybody I know that posts anything at all smut-like puts it behind a cut, so we can all be happy.

*Kids as in pre-teen. There's no way to keep teens out of porn, and I know it. Though even in my teenage years, I still didn't like the stuff.

OMG that series sounds so crappy...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gor

mysoginist, racist, and just badly written from what i have read. I am tempted to buy a copy of a bookm from half.com to see if it's really that shitty. It really sounds like a bad fanfic of a Renfaire fantasy but with too much pr0ns...
I don't know about you, but any author that uses the word "muchly" is automatically suspect in my book and has to be really good to get away with that kind of stuff.

Yay babbling: i am a big fan of parents actually teaching their kids about sex in a truthful but not overinformative manner. Telling them all about it when they are five can be a little much, but giving them a general idea of what sex is, and where babies coem from is just a good idea to me. Then it is much easier to tell your kids WHY you don't want them to see certain things, especially porn because they will have some gist of what it is that makes some porn unacceptable/unhealthy/whatever. It is much easier to request your child not do something than to pretend it doesn't exist or demand that they never look at it. making it forbidden makes it desirable, giving them real info and making porn uninteresting is much healthier in my view. I think half the reason porn is so addicting is because it is such a modern "sin" and therefore tempting and desirable. If it were unfashionable and not so glamorous, fewer people would be into it.

i think knowledge is always the best route and most kids I know who were well versed in sex ed were much safer in their teen years.

not to blather, just some opinions. In my psych class we discussed quite a bit about children and imitation, i think adults are much better equipped to deal with fantasy and pretend, while some kids usually have a hard time telling the difference between fantasy and reality until a certain age. This is probably why so many people have unnatural fears from childhood after seeing some scene in a movie that scared the pants offf them when they were 8! ;)

Indeed.

I am scarred for life because of seeing "Gremlins" when I was about six. I used to have nightmares about the nasty little things popping out of the dishwasher to get me! I still sometimes get a little twitchy if I'm in a dark kitchen at night. Thankfully one doesn't have to be in a dark kitchen terribly often.

yeesh... way too many childhood irrational fears...
my favorite was being terrified of the scene in "Ferris Bueler's day off" when his sister throws open his bedroom door and the fake dummy bueler slams out of bed, scared me SOOO much for no good reason, the snoring sound and the dummy without a face moving on its own was horrifiying to me at the time. I love the movie now though, thankfully....
