Today I begun building a model ship that I've had for quite some time, and just never had anywhere to spread out the parts. But now that I'm in the new house, there is lots of room.

Fortunately the instructions are illustrated, becuase the model is Japanese, and the translations of the instructions are terrible! Terrible, terrible, terrible! The most amusing part, though, is that they translated the aircraft names from the Japanese, rather than just looking up the correct English names. Some things, well, let us just say that some things got a bit garbled in the translation. Here are the translated names. Lets see how many of you can match them up with the actual aircraft, just for fun. I expect you FLEET types to all get this! *grin* (And yeah, they did get some of them right. But the rest!)

Pirate of northern Europe
Giant wasp
Cross army soldier
Dark eagle
F-14 tomcat
Neptune
Aquila
Pirate
Invader
Ghost
EA-Waver
Hauk eye

Also, they "Suggest all kinds of warplane be pained with silver grey or charming color." What charming color is, I have no idea.

charming color... I must quest to find this paint. *giggles*

Some are correct yes, though I do love Hauk eye. Invader may be right though. But it would be interesting if this was a WWII carrier and they gave the Japanese nicknames for the American planes (mostly I'm currious to know what they called some of them).

Though I do like Dark Eagle. I shall have to use it. *giggles*

Though it is kind of odd... I just started a model because of the increesed space I got in my apartment ^_^;;

I know, that is why I kind of wished it was a WWII carier so they would have the old names ya know ;p

I spot Buccanneer, Hornet, and probably an F-15. No idea of EA-Waver. Neptune may well be mistranslated "SeaKing".

Heh. Where's Wingnut when you need him?

I'm not exactly certain of any of them, I'm bad at this sort of thing.

Oh, oh. One of the planes was known as the Corsair. It had something like a 14 to 1 kill ratio against Zeros in the Pacific.

Well, with a couple of exceptions, I don't know most of them myself. *shrug*

Also, I'm tempted to expose you all to some of the other examples of Engrish on this thing. (In fact I will... just because I really would like to know what this one bit means, as it sounds important, and one of you maight be able to figure it out.)

"All the inserted holes which have connect steering engine must be thorned before cementing."

What the heck does it want me to do? I have this paranoid thought that the silly engine won't run if I don't do this whatever it is...

...I think it's on crack. What's the illustration that goes with it?

It's a picture showing how you put all the little bits of the engine together and then attach them to the inside of the hull so that the rod thing sticks out in back to run the propellers.

I think it wants you to deburr the holes before you cement anything, so it has freedom of motion...

Aha! Methinks you are right. Yay again!

Also, it may be referring to the vaseline lubricant stuff you're supposed to apply where the propeller shaft comes out of the hole so that it doesn't leak.

No, that's covered in "make the oil full filled with sealing oil to avoid ship leaking."
