Well, I can't sleep, and my brain is runningrunningrunning, and at the moment it's running on Girl Genius, so I might as well let the running out to run around on lj.

So I'm thinking about the recent revelation that the Heterodyne Heir was a boy, and was killed in the Other's attack on the castle. And on the surface, man that doesn't make any sense! Agatha is the heir, and she's female, and alive, and anyhow the Other would be the boy's mother, so WTF?

But there is a theory that makes it make sense! I'm sure some of this is going to make attentive and intelligent GG readers go "no duh!" at me, but mostly with comics I just read and see what happens, I don't really try and piece the plot together before it's revealed. So speculation on what might be going on is new to me. (But boy does this story invite it!)

Anyhow, Agatha is most definitely the child of Lucrezia, right? No doubting that! And we're all pretty certain she's also the daughter of Bill Heterodyne, right? So there's no shenannigans going on here. But nobody knew about her at the castle. If nobody at the castle knew about her, this means that she wasn't born when the Other (aka Lucrezia) attacked. And there's no way on earth that she was concieved after the attack, given who did the attacking. So she must have been concieved, but not born beforehand. Or in other words, Lucrezia was pregnant when she launched the attack. This is very much born out by the story the Geisterdamen give, in which their goddess is pregnant when she returns to them to rally them to battle. So there's that bit solved. But what about the Other/Lucrezia killing the heir?

Well, I suspect that since the Other is very obviously not human, (see her total lack of patience with needing sleep, for example, or the way the Geisterdamen talk about having always served her) it's a simple problem to solve. The Other needs a human host, and that host has to have a particular quality having to do with the voice. Lucrezia has that quality which is why she got posessed in the first place, but with the Other going to war, for whatever reason, she probably thought it would be wise to have a back up, so the plan wouldn't end there if Lucrezia died in battle. So the war couldn't be started until there was a suitable heir. And given that it depends on voice tone, obviously a male wouldn't do. Thus being literally inhuman, and having no use for the boy, she didn't care if he was killed. It probably would have been more prudent for her to wait until the girl was born before kicking things off, but she's not very good with patience, and she'd already been waiting a number of years at this point. I suspect she may have attacked the castle on the very night she found she was pregnant with a girl, that being why nobody else even knew about the pregnancy at all.

There's my little theory. Now I get to wait and see how right (or wrong) I am... Man, I wish this updated faster!

In not really related GG-ness, I really love the last panel of this comic. I mean... it's not something you really expect from Jagermonsters, but it's honestly very well done to be in character, and is rather touching. I'm weird, to get all mushy over Jagers.

Hey, compared to some other webcomics, GG is like clockwork. *grins*

And awesome theory, I hadn't even thought of that... of course, I'm still catching up too.
