Having additional galleries is something I'm thinking about. FA has really been invaluable for reaching new customers, however much it may be falling down lately. And the more places I am, the more people I can reach, potentially.

I don't intend to have a gallery at every single furry gallery site there is, but I don't want to miss out if there are any good venues for my art that I'm unaware of.

Thus I ask you, oh readers, what furry galleries are there? If the gallery doesn't have any kind of social network ability attached, and is simply a plact to store art, such as photobucket, it's of no use to me, but any place where I can generate an audience is good. Particularly I'm interested in ones without a lengthy application process or strict content restrictions. Strict restrictions on mature content are fine, I never creatue mature art anyhow. Non-furry galleries that allow furry art (like DA and Elfwood) are fine also.

Ones I'm on already:
Furry Art Pile
Furaffinity
Deviantart

One I know of and am avoiding:
Artspots
Jaxpad
VCL
Elfwood

Ones I don't know of:
I don't know, tell me!

Elfwood is for amateurs only, and you can get dinged for being a professional artist in another medium (I had that happen with my stuff, but got reinstated- quite good, as I've had that site for more than 10 years... :P)

Notice, oh knowledgeable one, that it is on the list of galleries which I am avoiding I list it so that people shall not recommend it to me when I know that I cannot submit my work there.

Oops. :P I'm a dope. (Eventually, I will learn not to read and comment while talking on the phone. :P)

Elfwood is for amateurs only

Can you expand on this? I went look through the rules and couldn't find anything about that. And I remember there being drawings and sculptures and stuff where the description clearly said that the item was for sale or that the artist would do commissions.

I'm thinking of uploading stuff (I did some digging and discovered that I had joined just over a year ago), though the distinct lack of fursuits has me wondering whether they get through the rules or not.. I distinctly remember waiting in queue for about a month to upload stuff (sculpture or fursuits, since I don't draw).. but since I have nothing there now, it must have been declined.

It's in the TOS, IIRC. I haven't post anything on there in a VERY long time though.

It may have changed, I just recall that from when I first tried to join, but that was like... 98? Something like that.

Now that I think about it, Melody Pena has a gallery there, so they must have lifted that rule. Duh!

Not a member of these places, just did some browsing for you..

http://furnation.com/index.php?act=home Seems a bit forumish, but does have an art gallery option like thing.. and is furry genre

http://www.paperdemon.com/index.php
Seems to be a fantasy oriented gallery site.

Sorry I'm not much help, I'm stuck on DeviantART pretty much myself. Just found FA not too long ago.. but they've been having all sorts of trouble.

*points above* Oh yeah I remember hearing about sheezyart a while back, never did look into it though.. But I think they were pretty well established.

Thanks!

Though a quick look at furnation... I'm pretty sure I was there before, years ago, and I left because of a combination of nobody ever saying anything in the fursuit area, and the people who did say something making me want to bite them.

paperdemon looks fairly interesting, though I may trip over their rules about photography. Particularly the bits about a nice backdrop and good lighting... O.o

Your welcome,

Well if you have a large spare piece of fabric those usually make decent back drops.. That's what I use, but then again I'm usually not photographing large objects..

If it's a clean clear picture without too much clutter you'd think it'd be alright.. Might just have to test the waters there..

As long as it's not taken on a floor full of shredded foam bits and scissors and pens everywhere, with your web cam, and the lights off.. lol

do you have reasoning that you wish to post for the good / avoid sites? I am mostly curious since i only know a few of the sites.

Sure.
Furry Art Pile - Good because it allows all the various kinds of art I do, and because there is sufficient population to attract watchers and comments. Further time will tell if it's really great or not, but it's at least acceptable.
Furaffinity - Big. I have 82 watchers there. I get a fair number of comments on some things. Has server troubles which I don't honestly expect to ever go away completely, but it also allows all the various sorts of art I do.
Deviantart - Friggen' huge, but this is balanced out by it being much harder to attract new people, given that your uploaded art is on the front page for about a milisecond. Also allows all my art, but is sometimes a bit weird about moving it around, and once a photo vanished without a trace for no reason.

Artspots - Elitist. There is a VERY involved application program to get in, and I don't care to be made to jump through hoops just so people can look at my stuff. Plus they're silly and anal about "anthro" stuff. No animals, no humans, it has to have characteristics of both, and there are actually rules about the percentages allowed etc.
Jaxpad - Associated with Jaxpad. Not elitist, any quality level can be put in, but also very anal about it being "anthro" so things like my Windstone PYOs and a photo of me wearing a tail got deleted for not being "anthro." This annoyed me so much I deleted my account there.
VCL - Also has an application process, though I hear it's fairly easy to get past. But doesn't have any comment or feedback system, so I would never know if people were seeing my work there or not. Also has some content restrictions about "anthro" though they allow some exceptions. Not worth the effort of applying.
Elfwood - Apparently nearly impossible to get into, and anal about commercial art, so I couldn't promote my commissions and sales there, so meh. Also not worth it.

Er... Jaxpad's bit should read "associated with Artspots"
