Pretty, isn't it? Russian blue/snow leopard cross, hand painted with special alcohol based ink. I've finally given up on doing any detail work with the airbrush, I just don't have a steady enough hand for it, but this new method isn't much slower, and is much, much more accurate.

I would say you've hit on a method that works wonderfully, especially if it can be done so quickly and accurately at the same time. Quite beautiful results!

There are tricks to steadying your hand, usually involving bracing the arm against another part of your body. Persevere!

Because if you want to airbrush, or you need the technique for a particular effect, there are ways to overcome shaky hands.

Of course if you don't want to airbrush, don't bother.

Wow, I really like those results! Any chance you'd share how/where you get your ink? (is it Sharpie dye ink?)

I have a steady enough hand for airbrush, but I hate having to invest in X amount of airbrushes, or to have to clean it and all that mess.

Yeah, it's the Tandy alcohol based leather dyes. (And disliking the mess, and the fumes, is the other reason why I'm not eager to stick with airbrush.)

can you email me with how toos for airbrushing on fabric with the correct materials i might need it and should learn it if my plush is going to be half decent.

also, if you don't have an account on guru.com someone is looking for someone to design plushes to be made and sold in some zoo giftshop or something. i doubt my dolphin will amaze them.

i might do a plush commision for someone, but their fursona isn't a solid color, and the way they want it made is based off of a plush I made with a single piece of fabric. so i'd need a strech solid and some way to do the markings and tips.

I make duct tape patterns. So I cheat! What I do is I make a dummy, shaped like the plush only a little skinnier, out of newspaper and tape. Then I cover it in saran wrap, cover the saran wrap in duct tape, and cut the tape off. Then I cut the tape into pieces, and lay it flat to use as a pattern. Works very well.

If you want to screw about with painting on markings, you can try doing what I did here and skip the airbrush. Just get the right kind of ink (tandy leather dye) and paint it on with a paint brush. Do a test on some scrap fur first, to get used to have it behaves, and how best to paint with the fur grain. It's a lot like working with watercolor though. Not hard to do.

Thanks! It's really soft though, though the ink gives the painted spots a slightly coarse texture, sadly.
