I just found a needle I'd lost. I found it the hard way. I found it, in fact, by stepping on it. And by "stepping on it" I don't mean I stubbed my toe against it and it pricked me, I mean I put most of my weight on it and it went in half an inch or so. It HURTS LIKE HECK.

It also bled a disturbing amount. It's stopped now, but it was really going there for a bit.

It was so weird, and disturbing, and fake Hollywood blood looking that I had to take a picture. It's approximately one inch in diameter, and is actually slightly rounded with surface tension, which doesn't really show in the photo. There's a second spot where I had to put my foot down to go sit on the toilet to clean it out and apply bandaid, and I suspect a few small spots somewhere on the carpet as I walked to the bathroom too, though I was trying to keep my foot tilted to keep the blood off the ground. I was only able to surface clean it, so I really hope it doesn't get infected. The needle wasn't particularly dirty, but it doesn't take much to infect a wound.

I'm pretty sure I got one as part of the massive slew of shots I got before my mission, so... end of 1999, I guess.

Yikes! I'm really sorry to hear that, this is why I fear needles myself, I'm honestly surprised that this hasn't happened to me yet, as many needles that I find just laying around... ><

Jus plz make sure it doesn't get infected or anything...

Oh geesh.. ouch!! I've been lucky so far with all the spare pins I find lying around on my carpet..

Geesh though that must have hurt!!

tetanus shots are good for 10 years my Dr. told me.. (before jabbing me with one.. ouch! got it over a month ago and I still have a knot on my arm!) so if you got your last in 1999 then you should be good for a couple more ;)

Reminds me of a time once when my brother was little .. we found/pulled a 1/2 inch broken peice of a needle out of a "sore spot" on his ankle.. none of us knew how it got there or how long it'd been in there.. but Ouch!! didn't gush blood like that though..

Well hopefully it heals up nice and quick! and um.. find better ways of finding lost needles next time! .. Again.. *OUCH!*

My favorite 'foreign object' story is of when I stepped on a porcupine quill. I was so twitchy over pulling it out (quills have barbs and hurt *way* more coming out than they do going in) that I just left it in there.

A few weeks later, long after I'd forgotten about it, it emerged out the *top* of my foot XD

Heh, I did the same thing a week or two ago. I agree, it *really* hurts. Thankfully, it heals pretty quickly.

Luckier then I was... 11 years old, I stepped on one... And it broke. Inside my foot. So close to the bone that it took the doctors 8 months to decide it'd be alright to do surgery and remove it, and another month to actually do so.

I learned how to use crutches, because if I so much as banged my shin on something, I couldn't walk for up to a week straight. The actual wound healed quickly, just the occasional aftereffect from the needle still being there hurt. No infection though, thankfully.

Pretty sure it should heal up alright. If it feels swollen in another 2 days or so though, might wanna call a doc.

It sounds (looks) like the bleeding may have cleared out possible infectious agents, so you should be ok. A needle on a relatively clean indoor floor has to be better than a dirty, rusty old 1/4 inch thick nail/spike outdoors. My cousin, many years ago, had that misfortune. I had to step down on the board the nail was embedded in to help get it out of her foot, and then carry her inside on my back. Man, the amount of blood...

By the way... nice healthy, bright red blood! ;D

He he he. Mmmm, blood.

I stepped on a nail as a child, actually. Lots of ouch! Much worse than this. Though I jerked my foot off it on pure reflex, where with this thing I had to pull the needle out, which was the worst part.
