I used Tandy leather dye, the same stuff most fursuit makers airbrush with. It's more like working with ink than with paint, it's very thin and watery. So I just dabbed it on the surface and let it run down into the fur fiber.
It's actually a little better in the photo than in real life. :( The blue spots and the blue hair aren't at all the same shade of blue, but the flash for some reason makes them look closer.
Not that it's bad! Just not perfect. One always notices the flaws in one's own art...
