I'm finally done with my gryphon outfit. Well, for now anyhow. I may someday decide to do something with the head besides the mask I used...

I actually sewed soft cloth claws, because this outfit had its debut at the Children's Museum where I work, and I didn't want to be scary. The mask was scary enough, but the masks were the director's idea. The whole event was a masquerade ball, so we all had these masks. I modified the original one, which was losing feathers, to look more gryphon-ish.

You can see how I did the tunic on this one, though Dad, who helped me get into the costume (I can't do it on my own!) didn't put it on right. I was going to sew wing slits, but just sort of pleating it works just as well, as is tons easier to do. Less sewing on the dreaded sewing machine. I prefer to hand-sew, really. But sometimes the machine is better. I did hand-sew the gloves, tail and footpaws.

So Dad, who took the photos, didn't notice the outfit had footpaws and cut them off of all the other pics. I'd already gotten out of the costume, and wasn't about to get back in just to get pics of the feet. So here's me, with feet. Black fur is a pain to photograph! We fiddled with the settings, trying to get it so you can actually see the feet, and so now it looks all funky, but ah well. Fuzzy feet! Cuteness!

We never did get a good pic of the tail... It's a black lion tail with a tan tuft that almost, but not quite, matches the tan of the talon-gloves. Just because I had some tan scrap fur that was longer than the black fur, and I wasn't going to buy a whole bunch of fur just for a tiny piece for a tail-tip.
