90% of the fursuits I make are NOT designed by me. I make them according to my customer's designs. So would people please stop telling me how to improve my designs? They're not mine! I can't change them! I just do what I'm paid to do, okay? If you want to critique my design work, you can comment on my personal suits, but anything I've made for a customer, it is not my fault if it's a design monstrosity.

P.S. Okay, there is one non personal suit that I designed. Loooooooooong long ago I made a red dragon suit for a customer who said "I want a dragon, with red, grey, smoke and fire-ish things, make up something." Someday, someday it will happen again. Someday, and that day will be a happy day.

who is giving you shit about a design?

Nobody's giving me shit, exactly. I just keep getting people who suggest "improvements" to things I HAD to do. Like saying this raccoon suit would be better if the pale grey eye were darker and more defined. And I'm all "It probably would be, but I can't do that because the customer wanted it light colored." In that one forum thread I have said THREE TIMES that it looks the way the customer wanted, and nobody seems to be actually reading what I'm saying.

I try really hard to resist the urge to do it, because your construction is so awesome. So kick me in the shins if I do, okay?

(I will admit, 90% of furry artists' versions of 'collies' and 'huskies' drive me nuts. Collies are NOT chocolate brown, they do NOT have husky-type white masks, and they come in colors other than sables; huskies have brush tails, not curled (curled is a major fault, although it's correct in malamutes), they do not always have blue eyes, and yes, some of them even have solid dark faces....)

My pet peeve along those lines is pawpads on rabbits. Which I've had to do. :P "But it's so cute!" they say. "Yes, but it's so wrong," says I.

Oh yes.

If I see one more collie drawn with a stop and a non-tapered muzzle and prick ears, there may be bloodshed. Just saying.

Or, conversely, with a total wedgehead. Had to add that. Collie heads are tricky, yeah- but they're SO distinctive as part of the breed. ALmond eyes, NOT too large (but not piggy), that beautiful broad tapered muzzle, tiny distinct stop, parallel head planes, and semi-prick ears set nice and high- oh, and no giant flaring cheeks.....

He he he. Well, there are SOME allowances for cartooning. Consider that rabbits hardly have cheeks at all, then look at Bugs Bunny. But on suits trying to be realistic? No kidding!

I hear ya on the husky tail thing. I understand that people like curled husky tails, but they only curl them over when walking, right?

Also, (no offense to LV) I get really bugged by husky tails that look like this. http://mixedcandymascots.com/gallery/d/5021-2/3.jpg They stick straight out your butt and then curl over at the end. Is there a real animal on this planet whose tail looks like that? Cause if there is, please show me. :P

Indeed! Real dog tails do not do that at all. And yet right now I have a stack of unfortunately similar husky tails here, because tails like that sell. Oh well!

Actually, they can curl them over when standing still- but it's called a gay tail and it's a major fault.

If they curl them in motion? It's a MAJOR fault. Old-time mushers swear a dog with his tail up isn't pulling his share and won't keep 'em!

They're supposed to be carried out 'like a banner'- that pretty plume. Malamutes should be carried up, both still and in motion- but their tailset (and really their whole rear assembly) is a little different- the difference between the heavy-duty freighting dog and the speed demons.

Ouch. Designed to spec is a blessing and curse, it sounds like.

Reading some of the comments others have made, I feel like I need to add my two cents.

Personally, I think my biggest pet peeve is when somebody tells me how a mythical beast SHOULD look... I.E. when someone tells me something like "Dragons shouldn't have manes."

WTF?! When you see a real dragon, show it to me and from then on I'll start drawing it exactly like that. >:(

I swear... It seems like some people just have to find something to bitch about.

People don't seem to understand that the suits I post in places aren't MY suits. Maybe because most pro makers either never post to lj/forums ever, or get all fancy with logos and stuff. *shrugs* I've never wanted to act like a corporation, I'm one girl sewing in her bedroom, for heaven's sake! But I guess the price I pay is people who don't pay attention and haven't got a clue that this is my job and not just my hobby.

I don't understand why they wouldn't understand. I mean, with all the suits you make/post, do they really think all of those are yours? Or maybe that logic doesn't click in their heads. :P
