Whyfor is the shipping cost so high? Shipping for a 15 pound package, which is more than any laptop, is only $10.73, parcel post, going from your door to mine. I bid anyway, since it looks like an interesting challenge, but I am curious what makes it so expensive...

The fact that I'll have to buy suitable packing materials, and the fact that the USPs tells me it'll cost $15 odd when I use their calculator. Should it turn out to be less, well, I /am/ trying to make a profit off this thing, and if it sold for just the $1, that's not much profit. *grin*

So say you're charging for shipping and handling, not just shipping. ;) Of course, since a relative of yours has ended up being my new babysitter, if you were really creative, you could probably find a way to get it to me without using the normal shipping routes...

Anyhow, it says I won the auction. In theory, I'll be getting money in about 36 hours, after which point you will be paid.

While I'm asking about it, though, how long has it been since you replaced the battery? Most laptops have a safety feature built in that prevents them from booting if the battery is bad, so if it's more than 2 years old, that could be all that's wrong with it.

Relative of mine? Intersting. But I never see any of my Californian relations, so I don't know how that'd help with shipping. Unless you want to wait a year or two until the next time they head out this way.

And yeah, the battery is as old at the laptop itself. So if that's all that's wrong, I guess you're in luck.

Come to think of it, they never actually said they were related to you. However, they are Parks, and did a very obvious double take the first time they heard my name. They also spent the next few weeks after the introduction acting like detectives out of some old film noir B. I just sort of assumed that you'd set them to watching me as payback for me constantly sticking my nose into places where it probably shouldn't be. Then again, that could just be my natural paranoia...
