The botherations of having a mansion
May. 18th, 2002 12:39 pmSo what's up today? Today is the day I clean the basement of the veritable mansion I live in. This requires some explanation, as I'm NOT rich. So... explanation: My family is selling our old house and building a new one, and in the meantime we're renting a little brick box that pretends to be a house. This is not much fun. It is so small I was sharing a room with BOTH of my younger sisters. This was not a good thing. I love my family and we get on great, we're very close, but not THAT close. So, I started looking for someplace to live. But on my budget I can't afford much, and it's looking like I'll be staying in the box for some time yet. Enter the Allens. Senator Allen goes to the same church as I do, and my brother works for him as in intern, so they're sort of friends of the family. Very, very nice people. My mom happens to mention to them that I'm looking for a place to say and Pat Allen, Senator Allen's wife, says "Oh really? We have this room in our basement that nobody is using..." So the end of that story is I moved into the Allen's basement. My rent is practically nothing, but as part of the deal I have to clean the basement. And here's the thing, it's huge! They have a rec room, two bathrooms, a couple of bedrooms, a storage room, a kitchenette and a racquetball court. And all this is just in the basement mind you, I don't have anything to do with the upper stories. So I have to vacuum, dust, wipe down, etc. this huge thing.
The end result of doing that every week is that I've decided I don't want a mansion unless I'm rich enough to have a maid to go with it. Cleaning that place is a lot of work! (which is why I'm procrastinating, as I haven't done it yet today. I'll get around to it sometime....)
