Updated the wishlist again. The categories are really much more fluid than this suggests, given that I've yet to meet a Windstone I didn't like. There are just some, given the price tag, that I'm not really as intersted in, while others I lust after regardless of cost.

And today I got a green fledgeling, the newest fledgeling color, though other dragons in green were actually the first Windstones ever made. 'Tis spiffy! So I still have the complete fledgeling collection! Though I'm still agitating for the Violet Flame color to get put on a fledgeling.

The collection steadily grows! Now I just have to find room for the new ones...

I've been debating on the color pattern to do my new horse sculpture in, when I do finally get to painting it. It's a Friesian, which I hadn't know much about prior to this, other than that they are light draft horses, and are pretty as anything. The photos I've seen of Friesians are always of black ones, but looking at resins of them I saw dapple and pinto and plenty of other colors, so I assumed that black was just what you saw in photos because the black ones are showier.

Not so.

Apparently they only come in black. You get very rare cases of chestnut, but even those are dark, and if it's really a proper, pureblooded Friesian, it will be black. (Seems the resin painters were taking liberties.)

Of course it's not flat black, though it comes closer to being a pure, true black than any other horse color I've ever seen. It's a really rich, dark chocolate kind of color, black with undertones of brown. It'll be simpler to paint that something like a dapple or even the blood bay I'd been favoring. And I think the result will be quite impressive.

Huh

I've never followed stars much, but there are a few of them that one can't help but be at least peripherally aware of, especially if one is a geek. One of those is Wil Wheaton who is most famous for playing Westly Crusher on Star Trek TNG. Some people hated Westly, some loved him. I was always fairly indifferent to him as a character. Even though I was teenage myself when the show was out, I related more to the adults than I did to him.

Some years later I recall hearing that he hated Trek, and was bitter about his years involved in it. And I felt kinda sad about that. It's seldom uplifting to find that characers you liked were played by actors that hated the character and show, and though I never considered Westly anything special, he was part of the Trek crew, and I liked Trek.

Then, more recently I ran into a snippet of blog from him that was anything but bitter about Trek, and I wondered... what changed? Was I just mis-hearing rumors? Was he really bitter, or not? If he was, why suddenly now this warmth, even enthusiasm, towards things Trek?

Well, I just found out the answer to that question, and I think it's worth a read, for anybody who's ever watched any TNG. (Opops. I should mention it's got spoilers for the Star Trek experience, if you haven't seen it. *blush*)

I have a cat here in my room. It is all hair I think if you trimmed it down to an equivalent volume of fur, it would be about the same size as Kalli, and Kali is a small cat, but it is a longhair, so it is all fur.

Kali is meowing at my door. She sniffed suspiciously at the cat carrier when I brought it in. I'm not sure what she thinks of the cat, but she doesn't approve at all of being shut out of here.

There is a vet appointment tomorrow, and hopefully it won't take long for them to make sure this new cat doesn't have any hideous diseases. If it does, I don't know what I'll do! But it looks healthy at least.

I'm not even sure of the gender. It's hiding in the closet, and under all that hair it's not obvious unless I want to get quite personal with it.

I have a kitty!

P.S. The poor thing has not only retreated to the closet, but has gone behind my dresses and wedged itself into a tiny crack between a duffle bag and a tub of fur. Scared kitty. Hopefully it will prove to be more outgoing once it's used to this place. It will, however, let me pet it without protest, and I'm considering briefly traumatizing it by fishing it out and checking, so I can say "he" or "she" and quit calling the cat "it."
