O.o

This kind of is disturbing. Our new cat appears to have some issues. Namely, you get no warning if you have offended it. Purring and happy one second, and literally the next instant bit me and hissed. Not good. I'm going to leave her alone now, but that worries me. Purring usually = calm and happy cat, but in this case it seems not. Gah.

Also worrying because I'm not sure what I did. JJ tried to touch its stomach earlier, which was an understandable cause for such a reaction, but I was petting its back, something which mere minutes previous, it seemed to be enjoying.

Update: This amuses me! I went and read up a little more on feline aggression, just to see if this sort of behavior is a signal of anything, or just a nervous new cat. Apparently it's pretty common, and theories about it include the cat wanting affection only on its terms, not yours, and saying "petting time is over now" and this rather amusing one:

"This type of aggression seems to be more common in males than females. Proposed explanations for the behavior are that the petting becomes either unpleasant or sexually arousing, and that the cat is attempting to establish a dominant role with the owner."

I'm not sure if this was actually meant to say "you're turning the cat on, so he's going to behave sexually towards you," (which in cats does include biting,) or what. But that's sure what it sounds like. *giggles*

Stress

Stress, stress, stress.

It's probably a good thing I put on a few pounds over the last couple of months. Because this next week is probably going to take them right off again.

Want to lose weight? Get an acidic stomach, too much work, and a tendancy to fret over things. Watch your appetite vanish!

Just got back from the vet. Kitty is now hiding under the bed, instead of in the closet.

She hasn't got any hideous diseases, but she does have fleas, and is allergic to them, poor thing. I let Kali sniff her carrier with her in (and yes, it's a "her!") and they hissed at eachother, so it's going to take some time for them to get used to eachother. I still have them separated, even though I don't have to worry about Feline Lukemia etc. anymore. I figure it's best to go slow.

Anyhow, other than the fleas, and being a bit underweight (just 7 lbs, and though you can't see it under the fur, apparently very skinny,) she is completely fine.

Now I just have to think up a name for her.

The new cat has come out of hiding and is eating! Yay!

(Still no name. Perusal of hindu goddesses reveals none associated with cats. In fact the only oriental goddess having anything to do with cats that I can find at all is this "Tsun Kyan-Kse" that's part of the myth of how Birman cats as a breed came to be, but the Birman myth is the ONLY reference I can find to Tsun Kyan-Kse anywhere, there seems to be nothing on the internet about her as a goddess, and I don't even know how to pronounce that!

I like Kuan-Yin, but the inevitable shortening of that is "Yin" and I have enough Yins around already, with my YinWolf and Bob's JustYin. (Not sure how to pronounce Kuan either.)

Ceridwen does seem possible, but the cat she was associated with wasn't a nice cat at all! I don't know. More thought will have to be given to this. Kali took about a week to name. Naming is important, and shouldn't be rushed, otherwise you end up with lame names. (*eyes JJ's family, and Waldo.*)
