Here's some progress photos on this month's two major projects.

This one is a border collie/fox cross. I think already I've got a pretty good dog/fox shape going, leaning towards fox, I think. (I hope!) Just needs ears, fur, and in this case a wig.

And something new for me, an equine. A slightly toony pony that's really coming along nicely so far. The jaw here does actually move, but only so it can be posed open for better airflow, I couldn't think of a way to hinge it to the wearer's jaw, because a horse's head is so long, and the open mouth space so small, to do it right I'd have to skin it in something very elastic, and that's just not happening.

Oooh. Nifteh.

Do you study the bone anatomy before you start? You've gotten the nose bridge of the horse particuarly well, in my (Biologist, not artisians) point of view.

Well, with the horse I didn't bother to study. *grins* Horses were my obsession as a child, and one of the few real creatures that I can draw rather accurately with no form of reference. Generally though yes, I look at skulls and at lots of photographs.

Haha. Same here. I also seriously studied horse anatomy and conformation. I knew them inside and out at once point.

Bugs the heck outta me when I see badly done drawings/animations of horses, though.

Anyway, yeah, looks like the horse is turning out fabulously.

Thanks!

(And yes, so many animated/cgi horses just move wrong and it's annoying! CG animals in general don't usually move right. They just let the torso go along level while the legs flail under it, and no animal moves like that!)

For a moving jaw in the horse, you can have a chin pad like in your other heads, and a cord going from the front of the horse's mouth to the chin pad, as shown in red below. (Not drawn to scale, of course.) The red dot is where you can have hinge similar to the one on the chin pad. The hinged horse's mouth would move with the user's mouth.

But it still won't move the way a horse's jaw moves. They're hinged at the back, after all.

Yay! :D I <3 you, Spark! :D The jaw doesn't have to move, I'm not really worried about that. Don't make more work for yourself. It looks good so far. :D

The collie/fox cross has interesting eyes. They match the eyes that Yuna has in Final Fantasy X...

They do? Eep. That wasn't really my intention, I just thought it'd be cute...

Remember that I said "there's no such thing as an original idea?" No matter what you do, somebody else has done it before. Guaranteed.

I'm aware of this, and I'm not too worried about it, since it's pretty much a coincidence. But I know that other people out there that I've never met are going to have similar ideas. It doesn't mean I copied them. :)

Yes, I know. You just sounded like you thought Silver was accusing you of copying. Which he wasn't.

I apologize if I gave that impression.

Ah, no worries. It just happens to be a coincidence. I just noticed it because I tend to be a gamer-type.
